Detailed: Handling of Characters in Super Kanji Search on Windows 10/8.1/8/7/Vista

Briefing

Windows 10/8.1/8/7/Vista support the standard of a character set, JIS X 0213:2004(hereafter JIS2004, established in 2004). Compared to Windows XP, the major additions and modification are as follows.

  • Windows 10/8.1/8/7/Vista include all characters in JIS Level 3 and 4 defined by JIS2004.
  • The existing character shapes are modified to support the new sample character shapes in JIS2004.

On the other hand, Super Kanji Search supports the standard, JIS X 0213:2000(hereafter JIS2000, established in 2000), the previous version of JIS2004.

So, this page explains about the influences on displaying characters and converting characters when Super Kanji Search runs on Windows 8.1/8/7/Vista.

(For your information) JIS2004 and Supporting JIS2004 by Windows 10/8.1/8/7/Vista

JIS2004 is the revised standard of JIS2000, to answer the purpose of "Character shape list for non-listed kanji(the Japanese Language Council recommendation, on December 8th, 2000". The modification includes changing the sample character shapes and adding the characters.

  • Changing Sample Character Shapes: 168 characters (JIS Level 1 and 2 =167 characters, JIS Level 3 =1 character)
  • Adding Characters: 10 characters (JIS Level 3)

Exchangeable Characters in Windows 10/8.1/8/7/Vista by Super Kanji Search

The exchangeable characters between Super Kanji Search and Windows are the characters in JIS Level 1, JIS Level 2 and JIS Supplementary Kanji.

There are restrictions on exchanging characters in JIS Level 3 and JIS Level 4. The exchangeable characters in JIS Level 3 and 4 are the characters redundantly defined by JIS Supplementary Kanji or the characters in CJK Unified Ideographs or CJK Compatibility Ideographs of Unicode.
